One of the ornaments of our auction - a high rarity bicentennial of John II Casimir.

A striking coin, like an ort in gold.

The Bydgoszcz 1664 dwudukat has so far been offered at auctions in Poland in only one piece. In 2007, at the 10th anniversary PDA auction (item 650, a piece with a pendant mark), later sold as part of an outstanding gold collection at a DESA auction. We have this honor to offer you a second piece. With an excellent provenance.

This is a coin from the famous collection of Henryk Karolkiewicz. Illustrated in the catalogs of Jaroslaw Dutkowski and Marek Kaleniecki.

Very rare also typologically.

This is the ONLY two-ducat of the crown of King John Casimir without the Coat of Arms of the Grand Treasurer of the Crown affixed among all the mintage. In this case, the coat of arms of Ślepowron - Jan Kazimierz Krasiński.

So far in the literature erroneously attributed to the mint in Cracow. In fact, being a Bydgoszcz issue, as indicated by the stylistic coincidence of, among other things, the royal portrait. Made by the engraver of the stamps of, among others, the unique portrait tymph from our 4th auction, which went to the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Piece of nice presence, with no flaws in the rim (often found on the wide striking coins of John II Casimir, used either in the era or later as ornaments). Only with shallow, not strong scratches in the background in front of the portrait and traces of their obliteration. Other than that, the state of preservation is without remarks, and the remaining areas of the coin's surface are natural and with mint freshness largely preserved on them. A fine relief, very attractive coin. Our assessment of the state of preservation 2- consistent with that presented in the auction catalog of the H. Karolkiewcz collection (2000). Catalog description at the time shown in additional photo. Karolkeiwcz collection auction sheet included.
